This centrally located inn was built in 1766 on the Boston-to-Albany stagecoach route. Greatly expanded and tastefully modernized over the years, the Wainwright is now presided over by one of the friendliest innkeepers in the business. Several of its rooms have fireplaces, as do the parlors, where guests congregate. The assistant innkeeper, an alumnus of the Ritz in Boston, makes sure the hot entrée and side dishes of each gourmet breakfast are comlemented by freshly baked breads, cakes, and other goodies
