Historic Merrell Inn ( Lee )
If you are planning a trip to New England's Berkshire Mountains, why not stay at one of its most beautiful and historic bed and breakfast Inns? This brick stagecoach Inn, built more than two hundred years ago, still welcomes guests just as General Joseph Whitton did as a veteran of the Revolutionary War. The Tavern Room, shown with its great fireplace invites guests to sit and chat just as the Whitton guests did two hundred years ago. Sit in its copious wing chairs by a crackling fire or write a letter to a friend at the two hundred year old secretary desk. Come and experience the special hospitality of this historic bed and breakfast Inn. Just as sea captains placed fresh pineapples on their gateposts to signify their return and to announce they were receiving guests, we welcome you to enjoy this rare architectural gem - the only American Inn to be included in the Historic American Buildings Survey - architectural renderings filed in the Library of Congress.
Enjoy a country breakfast of your choice and one for the likes of which guests have chosen to return. Sit down to your table for two set with handmade Bennington Pottery from Vermont. Come to breakfast anytime you wish between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. Dine in comfort in this historic room, in winter by a blazing fire in the original old massive cooking fireplace. Enjoy other meals at one of the great variety of restaurants within a few miles of the Inn. Select from the restaurant menus available in our Tavern Room, or, in Summer, buy a picnic lunchand enjoy it in the serenity of the Inn's riverside gazebo.
Enjoy the seasons of the Berkshire Mountains - visit the Norman Rockwell Museum (3 miles), Tanglewood Music Festival - Summer home of the Boston Symphony (5 miles), Berkshire Theater Festival (1 mile), Williamstown Theater Festival (20 miles), or Jacob's Pillow Modern Dance Festival (8 miles). Enjoy the splendid outdoor activity the area provides: hiking and biking in these scenic hills, skiing (six ski areas within a fifteen minute drive), swimming in cool and clear mountain ponds, drive through the areas many forests - all seasons splendid, but in the Fall, spectacular. Enjoy the many shopping opportunities in the area from the Berkshire Outlet Village (3 miles) to the quaint shops of Lee, Lenox and Stockbridge. A mile from Norman Rockwell's beloved Stockbridge village. On two acres of riverside, park like grounds. In the heart of the Berkshire Mountains.
